We have done lots of fun and exciting things this term, including many that remind us that Rainbows are 21 years old, these included going to the pond opposite the Railway Station and counting 21 things that the Rainbows could see and 21 things that Rainbows could hear. Another week the Rainbows were given empty film tubes which they took home and try to fill with 21 very small items. But the thing that most of the girls are very much looking forward to is the 'Rainbow Sleepover'. We have a fun filled evening planned followed by supper, story and then hopefully sleep. In the morning after a good nights sleep (wishful thinking) we'll have breakfast then we will all be going to parade service. We've already warned Mark that he may have a dozen Rainbows (plus Leaders) falling asleep during the service, but it will have nothing to do with his sermon. This will be our first sleepover at Westborough but if successful, which I'm sure it will be, we will be having many more. Another future event we are all looking forward to is the trip to the beach chalet on the 14th July for fun and games with the Brownies, including BBQ. Lets hope the weather is good. |

Brown Owl: We returned to Brownies after a very soggy summer. At our first meeting we said hello to 4 new Brownies The Brownies have all being busy working towards their Hobbies Badge, they have had to give a presentation to all the other Brownies about their hobby and then show over a few weeks how they have developed their hobby and they had to keep a diary of their hobby. Well done to the twelve girls who gained the badge. We have learnt that we have some very dedicated Brownies, who's interests are varied. With the light nights and summer weather we look forward to now spending some more time outdoors. |

This term we have worked towards the World Association of Girl Guide and Girl Scouts Olympics Badge, and at the end of the term will all hopefully receive gold badges. We started the term with all things Chinese, playing games with chopsticks and trying to feed each other sweets. Everyone made Chinese Tangrams (a Chinese children’s paper game) and had a go at making patterns with them. Some were more successful, and easy to make, than others. We had a Ready Steady Cook night with a challenge to make healthy and nutritious food that would be suitable for athletes. The week before half term we made sticky, chocolate no bake cakes, which tasted great! But the sad news was it was Kate's last night. Kate has now finished at University (she has been here 3 years!) and has gone back to Bedford. Latest news is she has found a Guide unit in Bedford which needed a new leader so is helping out there...GOOD LUCK KATE. After half term the Patrols took over planning and they organised a night on the theme of Fair Play and Self Esteem. We had some fantastic activities, and again lots of chocolate eating. At the moment we are travelling around the world, completing craft and cooking activities in different countries. We are finishing the term with our own Olympic Torch relay down the beach, and lots of Olympic games...and of course a BBQ!
RANGERS Age Range: 14 to 18 Meetings: Tuesdays, 7.30 – 9.00 p.m. Rangers have had a very busy and successful year so far going from just 2 Rangers to 10! At the beginning of the year we held a Pancake challenge for Guides who were 13+ to come and see what we do at Rangers. The evening consisted of cooking pancakes in different ways with different mixtures and seeing which one tasted and cooked the best!! Needless to say there were a few burnt ones!! Eating and cooking been one the Rangers favourite activities we have done Smoothie making, chocolate fondue, popcorn and several ready steady cook evenings with some very interesting products!! And a lot of mess!!! Just after Mother’s Day Rita came to show us some flower arranging which was excellent and the Rangers made some fantastic posies. A big thank you to Rita for giving up her time. We have also been out and about’ we went Ten pin bowling at Fantasy Forest were I was beaten good and proper. A Ghost Walk around the old town was also enjoyed. We have also done a pamper night, TV gameshow, team building games, papier mache piggy banks and a film night. We have also been invited to Join 15th Scarborough Guides on their Guide holiday at Holme House. We are looking forward to the hike in Raincliffe Woods, Christmas meal, Flamingo Land and finishing the term off with a BBQ down the beach. Plans are also in action for the autumn term with a trip to the Big Gig (the Girlguiding UK concert). We have still got places for anybody who is 14 and over to join us at Rangers. Come and join us for some fun!! Contact Amelia on 01723 354544 if you want to know more. |
